Fund the fight against secrecy!

Labor has dumped its own FOI secrecy bill rather than face defeat in the Senate.

It’s a major win for transparency – and proof that organised public pressure works. But the next fight is already taking shape.

The Albanese Government has already flagged it wants to come back with new legislation. With government secrecy increasing and Australia’s FOI system badly broken, reform is needed – but it must be genuine reform, not another attempt to make it harder for the public to access government information.

Whistleblower Justice Fund can help drive the campaign for reform — but only if supporters like you help.

This campaign has shown what’s possible when supporters back serious strategy. We turned a “done deal” into a political liability – and forced a retreat. Let's not stop now.

Will you chip in today to keep WJF in the fight for transparency?

Since the FOI Amendment Bill 2025 was introduced, Whistleblower Justice Fund has worked with leading anti-corruption, media freedom, and human rights organisations to stop it.

Together, we helped turn this Bill from a quiet stitch-up into a bill Labor couldn’t pass. We briefed parliamentarians and staffers across parties and the crossbench, helped coordinate a united civil society response, and made the democratic stakes impossible to ignore.

WJF supporters also helped fund a full-page open letter in The Australian – a public pressure tactic that landed at a critical moment.

Labor has now dumped the Bill. That is a real win. Now we need to hold the line against secrecy and push for the FOI reform Australia actually needs.

Chip in now to help us keep the pressure on – and win the next phase.
